About Backlash Journal

Backlash Journal is an independent fishing publication focused on Ontario lure fishing — bass and walleye first, the wider Great Lakes later. It is edited by Justin. It is not a diary of fishing trips: we do not publish first-person fishing stories, and we do not invent experience. Our job is to track the information that matters to Ontario lure anglers and to say clearly where each fact comes from.

What we publish

News is collected automatically from public feeds and pages. We keep only the headline, a short summary and a link to the original publisher; we do not republish articles.

Guides are built from public data: the Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary, OpenStreetMap and Overture Maps. Facts such as dates, limits and addresses come from those sources; the wording is our own.

Articles are drafted with the help of AI tools, then checked by the editor against the primary source before anything is published. Every article lists its sources at the bottom, and a draft is not published until it has been reviewed. Where a point is common angling knowledge rather than a documented fact, we say so.

We do not cover live bait or chum fishing.

How we check

Regulation facts are read from the ontario.ca zone pages themselves, with the date we read them stated in the article. When a rule cannot be confirmed from an official page, we leave it out or send you to the official page rather than guess.

Independence

We currently accept no money from tackle brands, tournaments or other companies, and no product is reviewed in exchange for payment or free gear. If that ever changes, paid or sponsored content will be labelled and this page will be updated first.

Accuracy

Regulation summaries here are simplified. Rules change and zones have local exceptions, so the official Ontario regulations are always the final word. Spot a mistake? Tell us and we will fix it.
